Pirate themed invitations

Choose a date and time for the party, and craft invitations with a pirate theme. Make them resemble treasure maps, ancient scrolls, or pirate flags. Ensure they contain key details such as the date, time, venue, and RSVP instructions. Opt for “message in a bottle” style invitations or design treasure map-inspired invites with singed edges and an engaging “Ahoy, Matey!” salutation.

Pirate Attire

Encourage children to arrive dressed as pirates. Supply bandanas, eye patches, hats, and vests for those in need.  Provide face painting to give kids beards, mustaches, or scars, completing their authentic buccaneer look.

Here is a multi-piece pirate costume and pirate accessory set.

Pirate party decorations

Create a pirate’s lair with flags, steering wheels, treasure chests, and banners adorned with skulls and crossbones. Establish the ambiance with these flags, chests, and nautical ropes. Employ a color palette of blue, black, and red to evoke the pirate essence. Incorporate cutouts of pirate ships, drapes of fishnet, and balloons resembling skulls and crossbones. Scatter “X marks the spot” signs throughout the party zone and exhibit a prominent map.

Pirate Names

Assign each child a pirate name for the day and make name tags or pirate ID cards.

This might be useful when deciding on your piarate name!

Pirate games

  • Treasure Hunt: Hide small treasures around the yard and create a map with clues leading kids to find the “X.”
  • Walk the Plank: Set up a small plank over blue cloth (to represent water) and let kids take turns “walking the plank” as a daring pirate would.
  • Pin the Patch on the Pirate: A pirate twist on the classic game, where kids try to pin an eye patch on a pirate poster.
  • Pirate Ship Race: Use large cardboard boxes to make pirate ships, and let kids “row” to the finish line for some fun races.

Pirate crafts

Ideas include creating a crafting station where children can adorn their own pirate hats, flags, or telescopes with markers, stickers, and jewels, allowing kids to personalize their pirate attire. Establish an area for “treasure chest decoration” with small boxes, glitter glue, and adhesive gems.

How about this paint a pirate as an activity.

Food for hungry pirates

  • Offer “fish and chips” (goldfish crackers and fries), pirate’s punch (blue juice or soda), and mini sandwiches or “cannonballs” (meatballs).
  • Adorn cupcakes with gold coins, mini flags, or candy “jewels” to resemble treasure.
  • Provide fruit skewers dubbed “parrot food” and utilize pirate-themed plates and cups.

Pirate Music and Story telling.

Cake cutting ceremony

Don’t forget the cake cutting ceremony! It’s an important part of the party for the child. Gather everyone to sing “Happy Birthday” and watch the birthday child blow out the candles.

A cake decorating kit, to make that cake extra special.

Party Favors Pirate style

Prepare pirate-themed party favors like pirate stickers, temporary tattoos, compasses, or mini treasure chests filled with goodies. These will be given to the children as they leave.

Don't forget the other adults

You will also have adults attending, you want them to have a good time too! If you have those who love helping, you could have already assigned roles, such as the story reader, the craft station, the food server. Don’t forget some will not be comfortable be the entertainment and that is OK too.

Walking the plank

Don’t make any adult walk the plank, no matter how much they deserve it!
